The snow is falling softly, the cartoons are pumping and I am…working on a Sunday.
Not sexy. But here’s the thing. My goals for 2017 include making a next-level service-based impact in YOUR life.
And next-level sometimes works on Sunday.
I have to assume that because you are here with me, that you (at least on some level) desire a next-level life.
Next-level income, impact, depth, purpose, inspiration, creativity
Correct me if I’m wrong here, but isn’t that what we all kind of came here for?
The purpose of ALL of the lessons and heartache can’t possibly be just to coast it out at status quo until we quietly die in our 80’s, can it? (If that is your description of next-level, please forgive me. I’m not judging you. We are simply very different creatures).
The Next-Level is, in my humble opinion, where IT ALL happens.
It’s where we start living the lives we’ve dreamed of. The lives that the people whom we look up to are living.
Here’s the thing I’ve learned about the next-level life though. And I think it’s the thing that keeps most of us from living one.
If you want to live a next-level life, you have to be willing to do some next-level shit
Probably on at least a daily basis, if not multiple times in a day, you will be called upon to do some shit that most people just aren’t willing to do.
You will have to override every scared, neurotic, complacent, lazy impulse that your ego can throw at you and routinely do things like:
• Let go of shit you don’t want to let go of yet
• Write new stories about yourself and the world
• Walk away from relationships
• Forgive people you’d rather stay mad at
• Exercise more discipline than you want to
• Be more patient than you’d like
• Hold faith when it seems like nothing is working
• Admit to being wrong
• Love yourself when you’re sure you’re a total fuck up
• Admit that you were wrong, humble yourself, then move on more quickly than you’re inclined
• Fail. A lot
• Grow in uncomfortable ways
• Face your fears, prejudice, privilege, shame, past, and weaknesses on the regular
Sounds super shitty, right?
Sounds like the next level is asking WAY more of us than most of us are willing to give.
Far better to just pay taxes and die, non?
Except for that whispering in your heart that has been with you since you were a child, telling you that you are meant for MORE
More inspired action
And, can you guess where all the “more” is, baby?
That’s right. It’s at the next-level.
The good news here, is that the next-level is totally attainable. Yes, it’s going to ask a lot of you. But you don’t have to do it all at once.
The secret to the next-level is that it’s found in micro-moments.
In the choices you make a million times per day. The habitual, seemingly unconscious movement that you’re already going through.
All you have to do in any given moment to level-up is to choose it.
Some days it might mean working until late at night
Or working out when you’d rather sleep in.
And some times, it will be honouring the requirement of your body and heart to rest and watch Netflix for a full 24 hour period.
Sometimes it will be green juice and sometimes it will be cupcakes.
Occasionally, you will need to ask for help. In fact, asking for help (the right help. the help that resonates) will greatly shorten the curve and the brief humility required for the moment of decision to ask for the help will quicken your learning in ways that will stagger you.
I leave you today with this question:
Do you desire a next-level life?
If not…tax season is coming. So that’s cool. Everyone loves a tax return (and if you have to pay, it’s because you did well this year. So that’s cool too).
If so, what’s the one choice that you can make right now to make sure that the shit you’re doing today will take you there?
Cheers to your next-level. I can see it so clearly!
