I’ve waited long enough!!
Although I’ve previously mentioned my holiday love on this website, I’ve never been a start-carols-on-December-first kinda gal until this year. Maybe it’s because it’s my first Christmas with my husband, or perhaps because we get to spend the holidays with both of our families. Maybe it’s because last Christmas was so sh*t… either way, our tree was up for the first weekend of December and I have been waiting (highly impatiently) to share my Christmas playlist with all of you.
Now. I have a deep and abiding love for Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole but you already know those songs so well. I’ve decided to spice this Christmas playlist up a little. God bless the classics, but lets try something a little different, shall we?
* White Christmas by Otis Redding
If you’re a follower of this series, you’ll know my adoration for Otis Redding. The saddest, sexiest soul voice.
* White Christmas by The Drifters
Yeah, I know that was the last song too. But the versions are both so different and beloved to me. This one reminds me of Home Alone.
This is a beautiful version of one of my favourite carols. It’s the one from The Santa Clause.
Aaron Neville does a nice version as well.
No one sings it sadder than Judy. Check the lip quiver.
Mariah owns Christmas. Don’t let anyone tell you different.
My friend, J hates this song with a burning passion. Which is kinda why I love it 🙂
* Ave Maria
by the Bulgarian Children’s Choir
Oh, sob. Those angelic voices.
This album is one of my Dad’s favourites and has long been a Christmas morning staple at our house. Made even more poignant by Karen Carpenter’s haunting voice and heart-breaking story.
* I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas by Gayla Peevey
I had to pick it up – I was making myself cry. My dog hates when I sing this song. He runs away.
It’s not Christmas without this song. It’s really not.
Honestly, I kind of hate this song and I just posted it to be a d*ck. It’s in your head now, non?
I’m a child of the 80’s and I adore this song. There won’t be snow in Africa this Christmas.
David Bowie shows up at Bing’s house to do a little duet. Whose idea was this???
You can even hear Yoko in the background!!
I defy you to keep from smiling. This song warms the cockles. The cockles, I tell you!
I’d love to hear what your Yuletide favesies are. Do you hate my picks? Do you hate me for getting Dominick the Donkey stuck in your melon? Sorry??
