My cousin, Lisa and I were raised like siblings. We’ve been best friends for our whole lives. We’ve camped together, had slumber parties (sometimes drunken slumber parties), shopped, laughed and traveled the world together. She’s one of the biggest supporters of this website and she also happens to have a taste in music that matches my own quite well.
So, needless to say, I was thrilled when she agreed to put this post together for me.
Here she is, in all her glory xo
I have such a love for music that it can make or ruin my day. I can cry at the first note of many songs. I crank some of them up so loud in my people moving SUV that my kids don’t know what to do except cover their ears. I have included a few of the ones that make me cry, and a few that get cranked up in the car, and a few that I think send such a powerful message and a few that bring back those memories…both happy and sad ones.
* Against the Wind by Bob Seger
I heart him, I heart him very much. I could have made the whole list with his songs. I have been to many concerts, but hands down this is the best concert I have been to.
* Just The Way You Are by Billy Joel
Sigh, I NEED to see him in concert. I also heart him a lot!
* Easy by Lionel Ritchie (featuring Willie Nelson)
Love it. Check it out!
* (Wanted) Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi.
I absolutely crank this one up in the car, then if it is on my iPod I hit replay a few dozen times to get my Bon Jovi fill in. Went and saw them in concert with my bestie Twila, and she hearts him more then me (which I didn’t think was possible!)
* You’ll Always Be Loved by Me by Brooks and Dunn.
I think that they should get back together, and make some more fantastic songs.
* Bulletproof by Blue Rodeo.
My Uncle does an amazing rendition of this song on his guitar.
*Babe by Styx.
Love it, reminds me of my childhood. I really like The Best of Times too, but I am trying to stick to one of each for my playlist.
* If This Is It by Huey Lewis and The News.
Reminds me of road trips with my Aunt, Uncle and Cousins. My Uncle makes the best mixed tapes!
* You Shook Me All Night Long by AC/DC.
I couldn’t have a list without a little AC/DC on it. This one was hard to choose between it and Thunderstruck. Totally crankable in the car.
(Erin: Thunderstruck reminds me of junior high school dances. My neck hurts from headbanging just thinking about it.)
* Don’t Worry, Be Happy by Bobby McFerrin.
Reminds me of my grandpa.
(Erin: Me too. Also, this video is like an acid trip.)
* F*ckin’ Perfect by Pink. (NSFW)
I cried when she did this song at her concert. “Change the voices in your head…make them like you instead.” Such a powerful song for me and all the little girls in my life.
* Strawberry Wine by Deana Carter.
Love this one, and this one reminds me of my cousin Terry. I had it playing in my car many years ago, and he knew all of the words. He has fantastic taste in music!
* Fire and Rain by James Taylor.
Another mixed tape song that I fell in love with.
(Erin: this song makes me cry more than any song on this playlist. Loss…)
* Tiny Dancer by Elton John.
Rounds out my Top 14. I could have picked many more Elton John songs, but reminded myself of only one song/artist.
(Erin: excellent Elton choice. The jury also would have accepted Goodbye Yellow Brick Road)
Huge thanks to my cuz for putting together this trip down memory lane playlist for me! Do you have playlist ideas? Send them my way and we’ll post ’em: firstname.lastname@example.org
